Sculptor Mark Richter has set aside a 2' x 5' log (pictured) for this project, and he will work with the buyer to design the sculpture of your choice. This isn't just any old log, either. Here's what Richter had to say about the tree it came from: "A lot of history behind the tree. It is a white oak. The tree came from Morristown, MN. It sat next to a country schoolhouse. When I cut into the tree I counted the rings. About 80 years ago they must have nailed something to the tree, the wood was stained on all 4 corners. The county took the tree down, it was too close to the road. I counted the rings - tree looks to be 186 years old."

Richter will carve a one-of-a-kind work of art to be displayed indoors or out, for home or office. The pig sculpture shown is just a small sample of his craftsmanship. The finished carving may be picked up at the Swine Vet Center or the AASV - buyer's choice.

19. Antique Book: Contagious Diseases of Swine and Other Domestic Animals - 1880
Donated by: Dr. Willis G. Parker
Purchased by: Dr. Paul Armbrecht - $325

This book is the U.S. Department of Agriculture Special Report No. 22, published in 1880, and contains the reports of the Veterinary Surgeons appointed to investigate diseases of swine, and infectious and contagious diseases incident to other classes of domesticated animals. There are 14 colored plates , dated 1879, illustrating various lesions associated with swine plague, contagious lung plague of cattle, and rinderpest. Perhaps most riveting are the first-hand accounts, written journal-style, of the veterinary surgeons reporting their observations and deductions as they traveled to farms to investigate these and other serious diseases.

Dr. Parker provides a bit of the ownership history of this book: It was gifted to him by Professor Robert W. Bratton, who was a 1936 Purdue University graduate. After serving in World War II, Bratton returned to do graduate work at Cornell University and became a member of the Animal Science faculty there. One of his prized PhD students was Dr. Edwin Willett. Professor Bratton was teaching and doing research in swine breeding and physiology during the last chapter of his professional journey. He retired in 1978 to his home farm at New Ross, Indiana where he and Dr. Parker visited often.

Donated by: AVMA PLIT
Purchased by: Dr. Todd Distad - $775

http://www.landbigfish.com/images/store/swatches/PleugerPatriarchSW.jpgSometimes it's just difficult, especially in the wind, to cast lightweight lures and smaller soft plastics. That used to be an issue, but no more, thanks to NRX technology! First of all, you'll be amazed at how light this rod is, and if you doubt the power, just rig it up and give it a try. Only then will you understand what high performance is all about. Add to that sensitivity beyond belief and you've now only just begun to understand NRX. The extra-fast taper allows you to make low, accurate casts so you can fish right up under the brush - and when a real "toad" grabs your bait, you'll be in total control. If you need to cast soft plastic jerkbaits and Senkos, this is the one! Here are the specs: G Loomis NRX 852S, JWR 7'1", 1 piece, 6-12 lb line weight, 1/8-3/8 lure weight, Extra-fast action, Medium power.

Donated by: Carthage Veterinary Service Ltd and Pharmgate Animal Health
Purchased by; Dr. Bill Minton - $160

Here's the story behind the lens, as told by photographer Joe Barban: "There are fire towers throughout the western US, but only one in Utah. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937, this all-wood structure was built with fourteen square feet of living quarters included. Soaring fifty feet above the forest floor, one can see over 360 square miles of Ashley National Forest. I am drawn to historic structures which silently tell the story of an era since past, and I created the image of the Ute Mountain Fire Tower as a giant among the trees it once protected."
